To clarify, the CDC isn't saying that the muffins are now infested with ticks, merely that ticks can be the same size as poppy seeds. It seems like there are so very many ways they could have communicated this instead of spoiling a beloved breakfast item.
The last thing you want to think about when biting into a poppyseed muffin is "Gee, how many ticks are on here?" But now, thanks to this oh so delightful tweet, the possibility of ticks crawling across your muffin will probably be constantly on your mind.
Naturally, the internet was outraged and swore off poppyseed muffins forever.
