On Friday night Donald Trump's personal Twitter account was permanently banned from the platform — two days after he failed to properly condemn the dangerous riots that took place at the U.S. Capitol.
Earlier this week Twitter temporarily froze Trump's account for a 12-hour period after he fired off three tweets that they determined violated Twitter's Civic Integrity Policy, including a video in which he claimed the election was "stolen" and told the rioters he loved them and they were "very special people."
The ban on Trump was lifted and Trump resumed tweeting, however, on Friday after a "close review" Twitter decided to extend the ban permanently.
As Twitter users react to the long-overdue move by Twitter, people can't help but recall that many, including Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, have been calling for this action for years.
A video of Chris Hayes interviewing Harris about her clear stance on Trump's Twitter after a Democratic primary presidential debate is making the rounds, and boy, she really did call it.

When asked why she was so adamant about stripping Trump of his Twitter presence, Harris can be heard saying, "Donald Trump has 65 million followers on Twitter and we have to take seriously the weaponization of this platform by the president and the need therefore of a private corporation to be held accountable to say he is abusing the terms and it could result literally in a threat to the safety of human beings..."
When pressed on whether or not she was concerned about the platform being taken away from such an important elected official Harris said, "Free speech does not condone or protect threats to the safety of other human beings, and so that is what we're talking about..." she said. "The reality is we're talking about Donald Trump weaponizing Twitter in a way that could result in real consequence, including death. And we have to take that seriously."
Hayes went on to question if Harris believed Trump knows he's putting people's lives at risk when he tweets irresponsibly, to which she bluntly replied, "Does it matter?" and compared him to "a two-year-old with a machine gun."
At long last, the day has finally come. Trump has been permanently banned, and the VP-elect's continual efforts to make this happen sooner clearly haven't been forgotten.
