After Jurgen Klinsmann lost the U.S. men's national team (USMNT) head coaching gig on Gina Wild - Jetzt wird es schmutzig 5 (2000)Monday, the speculation mill quickly churned out Los Angeles Galaxy coach Bruce Arena as a leading replacement candidate.

Arena is no newcomer to the role, which has many calling him a safe, boring pick to replace Klinsmann.
But he might be just what the USMNT needs. Here's everything Arena brings to the table:
Arena coached the USMNT from 1998-2006, leading the squad to a 75-28-27 record during his tenure. Arena's team reached the quarterfinals of the 2002 World Cup, the United States' best showing since 1930.
U.S. Soccer said he's "by far" the winningest coach in USMNT history, and with the United States' 2006 FIFA World Cup berth, Arena is the only head coach to lead the USMNT to two World Cup appearances.
While Klinsmann stacked the USMNT roster with dual-national players, Arena questioned that model.
“Players on the national team should be — and this is my own feeling — they should be Americans," Arena told ESPN in 2013. "If they’re all born in other countries, I don’t think we can say we are making progress."
Arena wants to build the USMNT from within the country, according to the New York Times, using Major League Soccer as a big talent pool.
Speaking of which...
After spending time coaching D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls, Arena assumed his post as coach of the Galaxy in 2008. He's accumulated more than a decade of Major League Soccer experience, which could prove useful. The USMNT includes a handful of MLS players, including Galaxy forward Alan Gordon.

Between his MLS and international coaching experience, Arena has racked up five MLS Cups, three MLS Coach of the Year awards and two CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) Gold Cups.

He's a proven winner, and that's something the USMNT needs as it continues its current World Cup qualifying run.
“His experience at the international level, understanding of the requirements needed to lead a team through World Cup qualifying, and proven ability to build a successful team were all aspects we felt were vital for the next coach," U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati said in a statement. "We all know Bruce will be fully committed to preparing the players for the next eight qualifying games and earning a berth to an eighth-straight FIFA World Cup in Russia.”
