Move over, bachelorette sex videos Barbie. There's a newer, more inclusive doll to play with.
On Wednesday, Mattel released a line of customizable, gender-inclusive dolls called "Creatable World."
The dolls, which cost $29.99, don't carry traditional feminine or masculine traits. Instead, each comes with a kit of more than 100 looks, which allow kids to dress their dolls in whatever clothes or accessories available, including pants, skirts, hats, sunglasses, and more. The dolls also come with two hairstyle options, both long and short. The line itself offers dolls with a range of skin tones.
This customization means children can play with a toy that better represents how they look.

"Toys are a reflection of culture and as the world continues to celebrate the positive impact of inclusivity, we felt it was time to create a doll line free of labels,” said Kim Culmone, senior vice president of Mattel Fashion Doll Design, in a press release.

The company made the move after conducting their own research on kids' attitudes toward toys.
“Through research, we heard that kids don’t want their toys dictated by gender norms. This line allows all kids to express themselves freely which is why it resonates so strongly with them," Culmone said in a press release. "We’re hopeful Creatable World will encourage people to think more broadly about how all kids can benefit from doll play."
Here's hoping more companies follow Mattel's lead and understand that dolls can fall anywhere on the gender spectrum.
