HTC's Vive headset has just experienced its first major challenge beyond merely getting people to try the virtual reality headset.
According to reports from multiple users,Bhasad (2022) Hindi Web Series the foam on its new Deluxe Audio Strap accessory begins deteriorating when wet and can leave behind a black substance in the form of particles and black stains.

When I tested the accessory last month, I didn't use it to point of sweating while wearing it, and didn't I expose it directly to water, but enough users have posted demonstrations of the issue that it's impossible to ignore.
When I asked HTC about the reports, a spokesperson responded saying, "We are aware of the report regarding the foam on the Deluxe Audio Headstrap. We are investigating, and when we have more information will let you know."
Normally, something like this might not be a huge issue with non-wearable devices. But because the HTC Vive is a wearable device in close contact with the skin that many hardcore VR users sweat into for hours, a $100 headset accessory that may leave black residue on your head when things get sweaty is definitely a problem.
According to one user, the black substance can be completely rubbed off, leaving a non-deteriorating surface, but for something the company calls "deluxe," this isn't a great look for the company.
HTC hasn't explained the cause of the issue, nor has it said anything about releasing an updated version of the accessory addressing the issue. In the meantime, anyone who runs across the deteriorating foam issue with the device can appeal directly to HTC, which the company is encouraging.
"Anyone who has had any issue," said HTC's spokesperson, "we always encourage to contact our customer care team."
