The Anne Marie Gonzales ArchivesGame of ThronesSeason 8 poster keeps things simple; this may be a rich and intricate story with enough characters and layers to fill thousands of pages – but it's also about a bunch of warring royals and some dragons.
The final season's poster returns to basics with a classic iron throne shot – but follow those swords down and you'll see the hungry eyes of a dragon.
The Iron Throne is made of the swords of the vanquished, and this season is all about defeating enemies. Valyrian steel swords in particular are among the few weapons that can destroy White Walkers – this season's number one enemy. The most famous Valyrian steel sword in the show is Ned Stark's Ice, which was melted down and reforged into Widow's Wail (barf) and Oathkeeper (yay!). Might those be the two hilts poking out of the Throne?
As for the dragon, the red eyes at least mean that it's one of Daenerys' two remaining living children (and her claim to the throne). Shoutout to Viserion, who is breathing ice somewhere north of here with his new dad.
Game of Thronesreturns April 14.
